Is this the best Big Band album available?
The Basie rhythm section is considered to be the best in the history of jazz. The Kansas sound was based on 12 bar blues heads, played at a fast pace, and in the early days Basie's band didn't have written out arrangements. The collaboration with Neil Hefti in these arrangements is a fascinating development, which has helped other bands to enjoy playing their numbers.
Originally recorded in the '50s and digitally remastered from the mono tapes, it sounds truly....splanky!
